769 FNUS54 KMAF 080756 FWFMAF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 256 AM CDT Wed May 8 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE PRESIDIO VALLEY... .DISCUSSION... Another round of critical fire weather conditions is expected today across western areas from SE NM south to the Presidio Valley. These locations have missed out on wetting rains, and ERCs continue to climb given multiple days of breezy conditions with above normal temps. RFTIs will range from 5-7, locally 8 this afternoon where the Red Flag Warning remains in effect, with eastward extent tempered due wetting rains and ERCs below the 70th percentile, in spite of critical RHs areawide. Recovery tonight will be poor to fair for most, with another very dry day Thurs ahead of a cold front. However, winds Thurs will be lighter precluding more significant fire weather concerns, and near critical conditions across the higher terrain of SW TX will likely be handled with an RFD. Fire weather concerns are low after tomorrow, given below normal temps and rain chances through the weekend. && For point-specific forecasts please see the Point Fire Weather Matrix product issued by the Midland/Odessa National Weather Service Office.
