Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
515 AM CDT Fri May 10 2024

Today:

Showers lingered over southeast Iowa after midnight but those have
since dissipated. Clouds remained in that part of the state while the
rest of the area was clear to partly cloudy. Areas of fog have
developed this morning as well, especially in the river valleys and
low areas and there were localized areas with dense fog as well. The
wind was light at 7 mph or less with a variable wind direction.

The fog will evaporate quickly this morning. Much of today will be
uneventful weatherwise, but a few showers are possible this afternoon
as a boundary passes through the region. High temperatures today will
be in the upper 60s to mid 70s. The wind will be gusty at times this
afternoon as the boundary passes through.

Tonight and beyond:

Sky conditions are expected to become mostly clear tonight. That is
important for anyone hoping to view the possible auroras over Iowa.
Saturday will be a fantastic day with mostly sunny skies and high
temperatures mainly in the 70s. Sunday will be warmer with some areas
reaching the low 80s. A few thunderstorms are possible during the
afternoon hours Sunday but much of the day will remain dry.
