Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
249 PM CDT Mon May 6 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/
THIS EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF
20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST
NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE DAVIS MOUNTAINS...

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS,
20-FT WINDS OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE
DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE DAVIS
MOUNTAINS...

.DISCUSSION...

Critical relative humidity is forecast every day through Thursday.
This will combine with increased 20-ft winds and high to extreme
Fire Danger Tuesday and Wednesday to create critical fire weather
conditions across the higher terrain, and elevated fire weather
conditions Thursday. A cold front Thursday will alleviate
critical fire weather conditions through the weekend. Recovery
overnight and Tuesday night will be excellent over parts of the
Western Low Rolling Plains, southeast Permian Basin, and lower
Trans Pecos, but only poor to moderate elsewhere. Relative
humidity will bottom out at 4-14% Tuesday afternoon, and 5-16%
Wednesday.
