.THE 2018 FALL SEASON WAS COLDER THAN NORMAL WITH ABOVE NORMAL
PRECIPITATION AT DULUTH MN...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE FALL SEASON WAS 41.1 DEGREES WHICH
WAS 1.4 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 42.5 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE FOR THE FALL WAS 81 DEGREES ON SEPTEMBER 1ST...11TH AND
13TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE FALL WAS -7 DEGREES ON THE
NOVEMBER 20TH. NO MONTHLY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE BROKEN THIS
FALL...BUT NOVEMBER TIED THE 14TH COLDEST IN STATION HISTORY COMING
IN AT AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 23.2 DEGREES. THE NORMAL AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE FOR NOVEMBER IS 28.8 DEGREES.

THE FALL OF 2018 WAS ABOVE NORMAL FOR PRECIPITATION WITH A TOTAL
9.85 INCHES RECORDED FOR THE SEASON. THIS WAS 0.80 INCHES ABOVE THE
NORMAL OF 9.05 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION IN A 24
HOUR PERIOD OCCURRED ON SEPTEMBER 15TH WHEN 1.74 INCHES WAS
RECORDED. AT LEAST 0.01 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL ON 44 DAYS. AT
LEAST 0.10 INCHES FELL ON 24 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.50 INCHES FELL ON 6
DAYS. AT LEAST 1 INCH FELL ON 1 DAY. NO MONTHLY PRECIPITATION
RECORDS WERE BROKEN THIS FALL...BUT OCTOBER WAS THE 12TH WETTEST IN
STATION HISTORY. A TOTAL OF 4.67 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL IN
OCTOBER. THE NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR OCTOBER IS 2.85 INCHES.

THE FALL OF 2018 WAS BELOW NORMAL FOR SNOWFALL WITH A TOTAL OF 13.7
INCHES RECORDED FOR THE SEASON. THIS WAS 2.4 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL
OF 16.1 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD
OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 9TH WHEN 1.9 INCHES OF SNOW WAS RECORDED. NO
MONTHLY SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE BROKEN FOR THE FALL.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR THE FALL WAS 10.0 MPH. THE HIGHEST
SUSTAINED WIND OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 3RD WITH A WIND FROM THE
NORTHWEST AT 37 MPH. THE HIGHEST PEAK WIND GUST OF 50 MPH OCCURRED
ON OCTOBER 3RD.

THERE WERE 2204 HEATING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE FALL WHICH WAS 140 ABOVE
THE NORMAL OF 2064. THERE WERE 49 COOLING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE FALL
WHICH WAS 35 ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 14.

THE OUTLOOK FOR WINTER...NORMAL HIGHS START IN THE UPPER 20S IN
EARLY DECEMBER AND COOL TO THE UPPER TEENS ABOVE ZERO BY MID
JANUARY. BY THE END OF FEBRUARY HIGHS WARM BACK UP TO THE UPPER 20S.
NORMAL LOWS START IN THE MID TEENS ABOVE ZERO IN EARLY DECEMBER AND
COOL TO NEAR ZERO BY MID JANUARY. BY THE END OF FEBRUARY LOWS WARM
UP TO THE LOW TEENS ABOVE ZERO. NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE WINTER
IS 2.98 INCHES. NORMAL SNOWFALL FOR THE WINTER IS 49.5 INCHES. THE
LATEST CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER OUTLOOK INDICATES THAT ODDS ARE
TILTED TOWARD ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND SLIGHTLY TILTED TOWARD
BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE WINTER.
