Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
240 PM CDT Wed Mar 27 2024

.DISCUSSION...

A warming and drying trend is underway that will carry through
the weekend. This afternoon, fire weather concerns are largely
mitigated by lower ERCs and fuel moisture, though elevated conditions
will persist through the lower Pecos River Valley where ERCs are
locally approaching the 75th percentile. Conditions improve after
sunset as winds become light. Critical RHs are expected across most
of the region through Monday, with locations from SE NM to the Big
Bend seeing only poor/fair nocturnal recovery. Fire weather concerns
increase Friday across the Guadalupe Mtns and adjacent areas as
westerly winds increase, with another round of more widespread near
critical/critical fire weather conditions possible Sunday and Monday.
Good to excellent recovery across eastern areas will limit the eastward
extent of fire weather concerns this weekend/early next week, with a
cold front Monday night/Tuesday providing relief areawide.
