OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
311 AM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

Low pressure of 29.3 inches will lift north-northeast today over
the state of Wisconsin and over Lake Superior into tonight. A
tight pressure gradient and strong jet aloft will allow for
southeast to southerly gales to 40 knots over most of the lake
this morning, then gales around 34 knots this afternoon over the
southern half of Lake Michigan. A gale warning has been issued for
all of Lake Michigan through this afternoon. Wave heights to 12
feet will be possible over the lake particularly during the
morning hours today.

While the low will exit north toward Hudson Bay Wednesday morning
and winds will generally ease, west to southwest breezes to 20
knots will linger over the lake through Wednesday. West to
southwest winds will then slowly ease through Thursday as high
pressure fans out over the upper Midwest and into the Middle
Mississippi Valley Region.
