Southeast Alaska Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Juneau AK
Issued by National Weather Service Anchorage AK
223 PM AKDT Tue Apr 16 2024

.SHORT TERM.../Through Friday morning/ Quiet and mostly sunny/clear
conditions will persist through the short term due to a strong ridge
of high pressure over northern BC and Yukon Territory. Light
northwest winds will persist over inside waters, but will increase
slightly in magnitude over the coming days as a strong front
develops in the Central Gulf. Temperatures will remain above
average, with many areas getting into the mid 40s to 50s. Sea
breezes may develop in the afternoon.

.LONG TERM.../Friday through Tuesday/...The high pressure ridge
impacting the region currently will breakdown and shift east over
the weekend as influence of a broad trough south of Kodiak begins
to spill east into Southeast. An upper level disturbance will
push rain from southeast to northwest starting Saturday night.
However, this same feature will build heights behind it, likely
leading to more ridging and above normal temperatures for early
next week. There remains considerable uncertainty in the long term
after the feature moves through over the weekend, but most the
ensemble guidance indicates the prevalence of the ridge, meaning
more warm and dry conditions.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR conditions will continue. Localized patchy fog
remains possible but conditions have continued to dry as high
pressure strengthens and offshore flow continues.
