...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY...

FEBRUARY STARTED OFF WITH MOSTLY BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR THE
FIRST TWO WEEKS. ON FEBRUARY 14TH, A WARMING TREND PROPELLED
TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL FOR ALL BUT ONE DAY FOR THE REST OF THE
MONTH. PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS ABOVE NORMAL BY 1.12 INCHES
IN BUFFALO. SNOWFALL FOR BUFFALO WAS JUST 0.8 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

TEMPERATURES STARTED BELOW NORMAL FOR ALL BUT TWO OF THE FIRST NINE
DAYS. TEMPERATURES FLUCTUATED ABOVE AND BELOW NORMAL FROM FEBRUARY
10TH THROUGH 13TH. ON FEBRUARY 14TH, A WARMING TREND STARTED THAT
SET THE PATTERN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH. BETWEEN FEBRUARY
14TH AND 28TH ONLY ONE DAY WAS BELOW NORMAL, THIS OCCURING ON
FEBRUARY 17TH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FAILED TO REACH ABOVE FREEZING
FOR THE LAST TIME THIS MONTH. THE WARMTH PEAKED ON FEBRUARY 20TH AND
21ST, WHEN THE BUFFALO AIRPORT REACHED HIGHS OF 67F AND 68F
RESPECTIVELY. ON FEBRUARY 20TH, THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 67F DEGREES
SET A NEW RECORD HIGH FOR THE DAY, AND THE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 51F
DEGREES SET A RECORD WARM MINIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR NOT ONLY THE DATE,
BUT FOR THE ENTIRE PERIOD OF RECORD FOR FEBRUARY. OLD RECORDS FOR
THIS DAY WERE PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1955 WITH AN OLD RECORD HIGH OF 64
DEGREES, AND IN 1981 WITH AN OLD RECORD WARM MINIMUM OF 43 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT THE BUFFALO AIRPORT FOR THE MONTH OF
FEBRUARY WAS 31.9 DEGREES WHICH IS 5.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF
26.3 DEGREES. THIS AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY 2018 RANKS AS
THE SEVENTH WARMEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD FOR THE BUFFALO CLIMATE
LOCATION.

THE MAJORITY OF THE SNOW THIS MONTH FELL FROM THREE STORM SYSTEMS ON
FOUR SEPARATE DAYS. FEBRUARY 6TH AND 7TH RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 5.9
INCHES AT THE BUFFALO AIRPORT, FROM A QUICK MOVING SYSTEM ON THE 6TH
AND A LARGER SYSTEM MOVING TO THE EAST OF THE AREA ON THE 7TH. ON
FEBRUARY 9TH AND 10TH A WEAK STORM SYSTEM BLANKETED THE REGION WITH
A WIDESPREAD 4 TO 10 INCHES OVER THIS TWO-DAY PERIOD. BUFFALO
RECEIVED 7.3 INCHES OF SNOWFALL FROM THIS TWO-DAY EVENT. IN TOTAL
THESE FOUR DAYS PROVIDED JUST UNDER THREE QUARTERS OF THE MONTH`S
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION AT BUFFALO (72.9%). MEASURABLE SNOWFALL, MUCH
LIKE THE COLDER TEMPERATURES MOSTLY OCCURRED IN THE FIRST 10 DAYS OF
THE MONTH, WHERE 18.0 OUT OF THE 18.1 INCHES OF SNOW FELL AND ONLY
0.1 INCHES FELL AFTER FEBRUARY 10TH. FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY THE
TOTAL SNOWFALL FOR BUFFALO WAS 18.1 INCHES, WHICH IS 0.8 INCHES
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 17.3 INCHES.

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS FAIRLY EVENLY DISPERSED WITH ALL BUT
THREE DAYS HAVING EITHER RAIN OR SNOW. THE FIRST 13 DAYS OF THE
MONTH SAW AT LEAST A TRACE OR MORE OF LIQUID EQUIVALENT
PRECIPITATION. ON FEBRUARY 15TH, A WAVE OF LOW PRESSURE ALONG WITH
ASSOCIATED WARM AND COLD FRONTS MOVED THROUGH THE AREA RESULTING IN
0.30 INCHES OF RAINFALL. ON FEBRUARY 19TH AND 20TH, A WARM FRONT
CROSSED THE REGION BRINGING RAINFALL WITH IT. DURING THESE TWO DAYS,
BUFFALO RECEIVED 1.41 INCHES OF RAIN. ON FEBRUARY 23RD, A FRONTAL
SYSTEM EXTENDING SOUTH FROM AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE BROUGHT AN AREA
OF RAIN THROUGH WESTERN NEW YORK, RESULTING IN 0.24 INCHES OF
RAINFALL FOR THE DAY IN BUFFALO. FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY THE TOTAL
LIQUID EQUIVALENT PRECIPITATION FOR BUFFALO WAS 3.61 INCHES, WHICH
IS 1.12 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 2.49 INCHES.
