Issued at 218 AM CDT Fri Apr 19 2024 After a rather active week, the forecast has turned quiet after yesterday`s system and associated front has exited the forecast area to the east. Behind the frontal passage, much cooler air has filtered in. Overnight temperatures have already fallen into the 40s across the area. Northern Missouri may fall even farther with lows potentially reaching near freezing. As pressure builds this morning and winds calm, some frost will be possible in our northern counties, mainly along the Nebraska and Iowa borders. Below temperatures will continue into the daytime hours with continued light northwesterly winds. Highs right around 60 can be expected across the forecast area today. Quiet weather is expected to continue into the weekend with nearly zonal flow aloft, limiting chances for any precipitation. The cool temperature trend continues on Saturday with highs reaching near 60 again for the Kansas City area, but north of I-70 can expect mid 50s. Lows Saturday night will be chilly with northern Missouri potentially falling blow freezing. The rest of the forecast area will see lows in the mid to upper 30s. By Sunday a shortwave trough sweeps to the southeast through the forecast area. Dry weather is expected as it passed though, with moisture remaining limited in the forecast area. Highs near 60 can be expected for one more day before a warm up is seen heading into Monday. Winds turn to the south on Monday allowing for the return of spring- like temperatures. Highs will top out near 70 in the afternoon. By the evening though, our attention will turn to a wave pushing through the High Plains, sending a frontal boundary through the area Monday night into Tuesday. With decent moisture returns in the area on Monday, the frontal passage will spark precipitation chances into the day on Tuesday. Dry weather is expected to return for Wednesday, but additional rain chances can be expected through the end of the week with several waves passing near the forecast area. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s through the end of the week with lows mainly in the 40s and 50s.
