Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA

...SLOW MOVING STORM SYSTEM FRIDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK BRINGING
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN, MOUNTAIN SNOW, GUSTY WINDS, AND THUNDERSTORMS...

.DISCUSSION...
Wednesday will be fairly benign, although higher mountain areas will
see humidities in the 8 to 20 percent range. A weak front will bring
light rain to San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties early
on Thursday, followed by west to northwest wind gusts of 20 to 40 mph
over most areas by Thursday afternoon, strongest near the coast and
deserts. A cold front will move through California Friday afternoon
into Saturday, bringing widespread moderate to heavy slow. Off and on
again showers will follow through Sunday or Monday, most organized and
widespread on Easter Sunday. There are a range of outcomes in terms of
the amount of rain and impacts. The current best estimate is for 1 to 3
inches overall, with 3 to 6 inches in the mountains and foothills, but
there is a 30 percent chance for double those amounts. There is a
moderate risk for significant flooding of roads, mudslides, and heavy
flows in creeks. If the wetter solutions come true, those impacts will
be amplified along with localized creek and neighborhood flooding. In
addition, south winds will be common for the Friday through Saturday or
Sunday time period, with gusts of 30 to 50 mph possible.
