Drought Information Statement
National Weather Service Morristown TN

...SEVERE DROUGHT /D2/ CONDITIONS REMAIN MOSTLY UNCHANGED...

SYNOPSIS...

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor released October 10, 2019,
Severe Drought /D2/ conditions have remained unchanged across
portions of east Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and southwest North
Carolina. The only exception to note is a one category improvement
across the northern portion of Scott County Tennessee in the
northern Plateau, thanks to rainfall during the past seven days.

This week, 28 percent of our area remains under Severe Drought. The
Severe Drought area includes...but is not limited to...South
Pittsburg, Chattanooga, Cleveland, Charleston, Newport, Morristown,
Greeneville, Elizabethton, Pound VA, Murphy NC, and Hayesville NC.

The vast majority of the remainder of east Tennessee, southwest
Virginia, and southwest North Carolina are under either Moderate
Drought /D1/ or Abnormally Dry /D0/ conditions.

Over the next ten days, autumn-like temperatures are expected, and
there will be a few chances for additional rainfall.

Fire Danger Impacts: Several county burn bans are in effect. Burn
permit requirements are also in effect across Tennessee, so to obtain
a burn permit, contact the Tennessee Division of Forestry. Across
Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina, local county and city laws
may also restrict outdoor burning. Burners are responsible for
contacting their local government for additional information.
