...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 218 AM CDT Wed Apr 17 2024

Higher theta-e air will slowly advect northward across the Red
River this morning into central Oklahoma. Weak surface winds,
coupled with the moisture advection, will help fog advect
northward this morning. Patchy fog is expected as far north as
central Oklahoma, where portions of southwestern and southern
Oklahoma, and western north Texas could see areas of fog. Mid-
level westerlies will deepen surface troughing along the Rockies,
bringing southerly winds up to 10-15 mph across the area by the
afternoon. Sunny skies will help high temperatures get into the
mid to upper 80s widespread, with areas across southwestern
Oklahoma and western north Texas getting into the low 90s. A cold
front will start to creep into far northwest Oklahoma by early
Thursday morning. Overnight lows ahead of this boundary will stay
in the mid 60s, and behind the front will get down into the upper
50s.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Tuesday)
Issued at 218 AM CDT Wed Apr 17 2024

The aforementioned cold front will continue pushing southward
throughout the day Thursday. Sustained winds behind the front
could get up to 20-25 mph. Surface dewpoints ahead of the boundary
will get up into the mid to upper 60s. A mid-level shortwave will
eject through the broader flow during the afternoon. Sufficient
instability and shear will support strong to severe storms along
the front as it moves through south central and southeast
Oklahoma. North-northeasterly surface winds will continue through
Sunday, so temperatures will reflect that and be much cooler
during this timeframe. Increasing rain/thunderstorm chances will
return overnight Friday into Saturday, especially across western
north Texas and the southern half of Oklahoma. Between a half inch
to an inch is expected through Sunday early morning, when rain
showers move out of the area. Temperatures will gradually warm up
to the 70s by early next week.
