.Discussion...
This week will go back and forth from days with heavy rain to days
with breezy winds. Starting with the forecast for tonight, a
surface trough to the north will hold showers and thunderstorms in
the area overnight. The upper air sounding from this afternoon
indicates and moist and unstable profile, similar to the
active weather seen on satellite data. Hence, expect widespread
showers with scattered thunderstorms tonight.

By Tuesday morning, a breezy pattern will build in from the east.
These trade winds are projected to push the aforementioned
thunderstorms westward and away from the territory. Furthermore,
trade winds are forecast to persist through Wednesday night, which
will diminish showers to scattered during this time; passing
showers are possible with the trades as well as orographic lifting
over Rainmaker Mountain.

Thereafter, a trough will develop to the north of the territory
Thursday. Model solutions depicts an increase in the potential
for flooding with a gentle breeze as the trough moves in the area.
Expect the trough to remain over the Islands through the new week.

Latest reports around the Islands pointed to calm seas as winds
are light and variable. However, satellite data indicates wind
speeds up to 20 mph just east of Manu`a. With these winds nearby
and forecasted movement over the territory by Tuesday, a small
craft advisory is in effect. Seas are forecast to remain within
advisory thresholds (around 8 feet or higher) until at least
Friday when winds diminish to light and variable.
