479 WTPQ81 PGUM 071139 HLSPQ1 URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED TROPICAL CYCLONE LOCAL STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU 939 PM ChST Thu May 7 2026 ...TROPICAL STORM HAGUPIT CONTINUES WESTWARD ACROSS CENTRAL YAP STATE... .NEW INFORMATION... A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Ngulu and Yap Proper and adjacent coastal waters. The Tropical Storm Warning has been cancelled for Faraulep. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Yap, Ngulu, Ulithi, Fais, Faraulep, and Woleai in Yap State. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Woleai, Ulithi, and Fais in Yap State. A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for Ngulu and Yap Proper and adjacent coastal waters. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within 24 hours. .STORM INFORMATION... At 7 PM ChST, the center of Tropical Storm Hagupit was located near Latitude 7.7N, Longitude 142.5E. This was about 100 miles west of Woleai, 150 miles southwest of Faraulep, and 195 miles southeast of Fais in Yap State. It is moving west-northwest at 9 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course and speed through Friday. Maximum sustained winds remain at 40 mph. Hagupit is forecast to maintain this intensity through tonight before gradually intensifying Friday through Saturday, remaining a tropical storm through the next few days. Hagupit is expected to reach peak intensity on Saturday and is less favored to become a strong tropical storm at this time. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 115 miles to the northeast, and 90 miles to the northwest. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Hagupit remains a weak Tropical Storm west of Woleai this evening. TS Hagupit continues to move west-northwest, as it pulls farther away from Woleai. Hagupit looks to maintain this west- northwest trek over the next few days, remaining at its current intensity through tonight before gradually intensifying Friday through Saturday. Hagupit is expected to remain a tropical storm the next few days, reaching peak intensity on Saturday as it passes between Yap and Ngulu. Faraulep remains outside the tropical storm wind field, and on the outskirts of the strong convection that has developed in the wake of Hagupit. Satellite imagery shows the cloud cover starting to diminish. This means the immediate convection is weakening. This means, the winds that are currently strong to near- gale winds will continue to diminish as Hagupit moves further away. Woleai remains within the forecasted TS winds until this evening, so the Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect. As TS Hagupit continues its west-northwest trek into western Yap State, the wind field looks to expand slightly northward, and Fais and Ulithi are expected to see TS winds starting around Friday morning at Fais, and Friday afternoon for Ulithi so a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for these locations. Tropical storm force winds are also expected for Ngulu and Yap, within the next 24 hours, and Tropical Storm Warning was issued. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For those under a Warning, preparations should be rushed to completion if not already complete. Listen for possible warnings and be ready to evacuate or move to adequate shelter if your location is vulnerable to tropical storm conditions. Heed the advice of local officials and comply with any orders that are issued. For interests at ports, docks, and marinas, it is recommended that you perform the prescribed preparations according to your emergency operations plan for tropical cyclones. If you live on a boat, safely secure your craft and make plans to leave it for adequate land-based shelter. Regarding the coastal waters under a Watch or Warning, small craft should return to port or seek safe harbor. Be sure to actively listen for forthcoming information from your local National Weather Service office and emergency management office. Closely monitor local news outlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to the forecast. When making decisions, do not focus on the exact forecast track. For those nearby, review your tropical cyclone disaster plan and become ready to act if a Watch or a Warning is later issued for your area. .NEXT UPDATE...
