...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY...

FEBRUARY STARTED OFF WITH MOSTLY BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR THE
FIRST WEEK AND A HALF. ON FEBRUARY 14TH, A WARMING TREND PROPELLED
TEMPERATURES ABOVE NORMAL FOR ALL BUT ONE DAY FOR THE REST OF THE
MONTH. PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS 0.20 INCHES BELOW NORMAL IN
ROCHESTER. SNOWFALL FOR ROCHESTER WAS 5.8 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.

TEMPERATURES STARTED BELOW NORMAL FOR ALL BUT TWO OF THE FIRST NINE
DAYS. ON FEBRUARY 10TH, A WARMING TREND STARTED THAT SET THE PATTERN
FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH. BETWEEN FEBRUARY 10TH AND 28TH ONLY
TWO DAYS WERE BELOW NORMAL, THIS OCCURING ON FEBRUARY 13TH AND ALSO
ON FEBRUARY 17TH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FAILED TO REACH ABOVE FREEZING
FOR THE LAST TIME THIS MONTH. THE WARMTH PEAKED ON FEBRUARY 20TH AND
21ST, WHEN THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT REACHED HIGHS OF 71F AND 67F
RESPECTIVELY. ON FEBRUARY 20TH, THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 71F DEGREES
SET A NEW RECORD HIGH FOR THE DAY, AND THE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 54F
DEGREES SET A RECORD WARM MINIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR NOT ONLY THE DATE,
BUT FOR THE ENTIRE PERIOD OF RECORD FOR FEBRUARY. OLD RECORDS FOR
THIS DAY WERE PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1994 WITH AN OLD RECORD HIGH OF 62
DEGREES, AND IN 1930 WITH AN OLD RECORD WARM MINIMUM OF 49 DEGREES.
ON FEBRUARY 28TH THE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE DAY REACHED 64
DEGREES, BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 63 SET IN 1954. THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE AT THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY WAS
33.6 DEGREES WHICH IS 7.2 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 26.4 DEGREES.
THIS AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY 2018 RANKS AS THE SECOND
WARMEST FEBRUARY ON RECORD FOR THE ROCHESTER CLIMATE LOCATION.

THE MAJORITY OF THE SNOW THIS MONTH FELL FROM THREE STORM SYSTEMS ON
FOUR SEPARATE DAYS. FEBRUARY 6TH AND 7TH RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 5.1
INCHES AT THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT, FROM A QUICK MOVING SYSTEM ON THE
6TH AND A LARGER SYSTEM MOVING TO THE EAST OF THE AREA ON THE 7TH.
ON FEBRUARY 9TH AND 10TH A WEAK STORM SYSTEM BLANKETED THE REGION
WITH A WIDESPREAD 4 TO 10 INCHES OVER THIS TWO-DAY PERIOD, INCLUDING
6.3 INCHES OF SNOWFALL AT THE AIRPORT. IN TOTAL THESE FOUR DAYS
PROVIDED JUST UNDER THREE QUARTERS OF THE MONTHS SNOWFALL
ACCUMULATION AT ROCHESTER(72.6%). MEASURABLE SNOWFALL, MUCH LIKE THE
COLDER TEMPERATURES MOSTLY OCCURRED IN THE FIRST 10 DAYS OF THE
MONTH, WHERE 14.9 OUT OF THE 15.7 INCHES OF SNOW FELL AND ONLY 0.8
INCHES FELL AFTER FEBRUARY 10TH. FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY THE TOTAL
SNOWFALL FOR ROCHESTER WAS 15.7 INCHES, WHICH IS 5.8 INCHES BELOW
THE NORMAL OF 21.5 INCHES.

PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS FAIRLY EVENLY DISPERSED WITH ALL BUT
THREE DAYS HAVING EITHER RAIN OR SNOW. THE FIRST 13 DAYS OF THE
MONTH SAW AT LEAST A TRACE OR MORE OF LIQUID EQUIVALENT
PRECIPITATION. ON FEBRUARY 19TH AND 20TH, A WARM FRONT CROSSED THE
REGION BRINGING RAINFALL WITH IT. DURING THESE TWO DAYS ROCHESTER
RECEIVED 0.59 INCHES OF RAINFALL. ON FEBRUARY 25TH A FRONTAL SYSTEM
EXTENDING SOUTH FROM AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE BROUGHT A BATCH OF RAIN
THROUGH WESTERN NEW YORK RESULTING IN 0.29 INCHES OF RAINFALL FOR
THE DAY IN ROCHESTER. FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY THE TOTAL LIQUID
EQUIVALENT PRECIPITATION FOR ROCHESTER WAS 2.15 INCHES, WHICH IS
0.20 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1.95 INCHES.

LAKE ONTARIO HAD A MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 34 AND A MAXIMUM
TEMPERATURE OF 38.
