Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Seattle WA
249 PM PDT Tue Apr 9 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Western Washington will see a break in the weather on
Wednesday with rain returning Wednesday night and Thursday. Expect
mostly dry and mild weather over the weekend. A trough will bring
more rain, mountain snow and cooler temperatures early next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...We`re in post-frontal
onshore flow this afternoon with a few lingering showers across
the region. Onshore flow will ease/weaken this evening with
showers diminishing. Lows will be in the mid 30s to lower 40s
overnight.

Wednesday will be drier and slightly warmer as high pressure moves
in. The low level flow turns briefly offshore for more sunshine
too. Highs will track near to slightly warmer than average with
lower 60s possible in the interior.

Rain returns Wednesday night and Thursday as the ridge pushes east
and a trough digs offshore. This frontal system weakens as it
moves inland and the interior will only see a trace to a few
hundredths for rainfall totals.

Low pressure shifts south off California on Friday, leaving
western WA dry and mild with near-normal temps. 33

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...Western WA remains in
between weather systems this weekend with low pressure centers
over California and northern B.C. The flow remains onshore but for
the most part the forecast is looking dry. Temperature-wise, we`ll
see lows in the 40s with afternoon highs in the mid 50s to lower
60s. The weather patterns turns cooler and wetter early next week
as the B.C. trough dips south into the region. Snow levels will
be lower with this trough, around 2000 ft, with a few inches of
snow at the highway passes. 33

&&

.AVIATION...West to northwest flow aloft continues over Western
Washington as low amplitude upper ridge gradually builds into
the area. Post-frontal convergence around Puget Sound will
diminish this afternoon with ceilings lifting to VFR. VFR
will prevail on Wednesday with the exception of some patchy IFR in
morning stratus/fog over south Puget Sound.

KSEA...Post-frontal convergence dissipating with VFR conditions
continuing into Wednesday with weak upper ridge. Surface winds N/NE
10 knots or less.  27

&&

.MARINE...Surface ridging will build into the coastal waters tonight
before shifting inland on Wednesday. A weak frontal boundary will
reach the waters on Thursday, but is not presently expected to
require any headlines. Broad surface ridging rebuilds over the
coastal/offshore waters late this week with lower pressure remaining
east of the Cascades. This will produce generally light onshore flow
heading into the upcoming weekend. 27

&&

.HYDROLOGY...No river flooding is expected over the next seven
days.
