...SEPTEMBER WAS SLIGHTLY WARMER AND WETTER THAN AVERAGE IN NORFOLK...


OVERALL, TEMPERATURES WERE SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN AVERAGE, WITH A MEAN
TEMPERATURE OF 66.1 DEGREES, OR 2.3 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE. THE AVERAGE HIGH
TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 76.0 DEGRESS, OR 0.5 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.
THE AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 56.1 DEGREES, OR 5.0 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

THE MONTH BEGAN WITH A WEEK OF BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES, WITH THE EXCEPTION
OF THE 1ST OF THE MONTH WHICH WAS ABOVE AGERAGE. THE 2ND THROUGH THE 9TH SAW
COOLER TEMPERATURES, WHILE THE 10TH THROUGH THE 20TH SAW TEMPERATURES THAT
WERE ABOVE AVERAGE. THE MONTH ENDED WITH VARIABLE TEMPERATURES; FOR THE MOST
PART HOWEVER, TEMPERATURES WERE SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE. NO RECORDS WERE BROKEN
IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER AT NORFOLK.

THIS MONTH SAW ABOVE AVERAGE RAINFALL, WITH A MAJORITY OF IT OCCURING DURING
THE EARLY AND LATE PARTS OF THE MONTH. THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH SAW A PERIOD
WITH SLIGHTLY DRIER CONDITIONS. 3.38 INCHES OF RAIN FELL DURING SEPTEMBER,
WHICH WAS 0.69 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. FOR THE YEAR, NORFOLK HAS SEEN 26.29 INCHES,
WHICH IS 3.07 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.

DURING SEPTEMBER, 13 DAYS HAD PRECIPITATION, AND 4 DAYS HAD THUNDER. SEVEN DAYS
DURING THE MONTH RECORDED GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 0.10 INCHES OF RAIN, AND ONE
DAY SAW RAINFAL GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO ONE INCH. SEPTEMBER 4TH RECORDED 1.90
INCHES OF RAIN, WHICH IS THE GREATEST AMOUNT THAT OCCURED IN 24 HOURS.

THE HIGHEST WINDS IN SEPTEMBER OCCURED ON SEPTEMBER 21ST, REACHING 40 MPH.
