Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
221 AM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.NEAR TERM...
(Today)
Issued at 220 AM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

Tranquil weather across the Tennessee Valley early this morning
with high pressure in control. As of 07z, temperatures have
fallen into the low to mid 40s and they should generally bottom
out in the 37 to 42 degree range (with some slightly lower values
across southern middle Tennessee). For this reason, we have a
Frost Advisory in effect for our southern middle Tennessee
counties through 8 AM to account for some areas of frost that may
develop around daybreak in sheltered values and the usual frost
pockets. For the remainder of the day, we can expect plenty of
sunshine, but northerly flow will help to reinforce this cooler
air mass. As a result, temperatures will once again run below
normal, with highs in the low to mid 60s being common once again.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Thursday)
Issued at 220 AM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

Another cool night thanks to the dry air mass in place across the
region and the clear skies and light winds -- pushing lows into
the upper 30s to lower 40s in most locations once again. High
pressure will continue to remain in place over the region during a
Tuesday to Thursday timeframe, with continued mostly sunny and dry
conditions forecast. In turn, this will result in highs reaching
the low to mid 70s each day, with lows in the low to mid 50s. The
only weather feature of note will be a shortwave through that will
push SE across the region Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
The air mass will be moisture starved ahead of it, so the only
weather of note will be some cloud cover (save for some low
chances (20%) of rain showers in southern middle Tennessee) during
this Tuesday night to Wednesday morning timeframe. Otherwise, we
can enjoy mostly sunny and dry conditions through the midweek
period.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Sunday)
Issued at 220 AM CDT Mon Apr 22 2024

A ridge axis will amplify over the Tennessee Valley Friday into
the upcoming weekend. Winds will veer to the SW/S, advecting in a
warmer, more moist air mass as highs return to the upper 70s to
lower 80s each day. Long range ensembles are still hinting at a
trough swinging from the Southern Plains into the Mid Mississippi
Valley late this weekend into early next week. At least low
chances for showers and storms may be needed in the forecast by
Sunday or next Monday as this system will provide out best chance
for precipitation in over a week.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1155 PM CDT Sun Apr 21 2024

VFR/SKC conditions will persist at the HSV/MSL terminals for much
of the period, with only a minor increase in high-lvl Ci (in NW
flow aloft) expected by Mon aftn. With the center of a broad sfc
ridge still well to the west of the local area, N flow arnd 6 kts
will continue thru mid-aftn before becoming lgt/vrbl.
