.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Sunday night)
Issued at 254 PM CDT Sat Apr 20 2024
The last of the showers and thunderstorms over the Permian Basin
will continue to shift east through the afternoon. Most locations
across the Permian Basin saw a general 0.5" to 1" of very welcome
rain. Temperatures remain chilly across the area with most locations
in the 40s/50s. The cold front has finally made it to the Big Bend,
but not before temperatures peaked in the mid 80s. Expect a chilly
night with most locations in the 40s. While most of the rain will
clear out the low clouds will remain into Sunday. We could even see
some drizzle or light rain tonight with some weak upslope flow.
Sunday looks a bit warmer although highs will remain well below
normal.

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Friday)
Issued at 254 PM CDT Sat Apr 20 2024
After a cool weekend, Monday sees temperatures start to rebound
somewhat with most reaching into the 70s. An upper level ridge moves
over the Plains that will bring us back to a warm and dry pattern.
Highs through the middle of the week move back above normal with
upper 80s and low 90s. Parts of the Big Bend return to the upper 90s
and low 100s. An upper low moves across the Four Corners and just
north of our area on Thursday. Breezy conditions take hold, but the
strength of those winds remains to be seen. Another, deeper low
takes shape over the Western US before approaching the area by next
weekend. Cluster analysis and ensembles paint an unsure picture of
the track of this low and any high wind potential over the higher
terrain.
