Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
234 PM CDT Mon Mar 25 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Westerly winds have shifted to the northwest across SE NM and the
northern Permian Basin as a cold front moves into the area, with
the front continuing its progression through this evening. Winds
are gusting to around 30-40 mph behind the front, with westerly
winds persisting to the south, gusting to 35-50 mph (higher in the
mountains). These winds are compensating for otherwise marginal
fuels and humidity, with elevated fire weather conditions through
this evening along/west of the Pecos River. Winds will be lighter
Tue/Wed, though localized elevated conditions will be possible. A
significant warming/drying trend midweek onward will bring the next
chance for near critical and critical fire weather conditions in
time for the weekend.
