URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

...HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW EXPECTED ALONG THE KLONDIKE
HIGHWAY BEGINNING TUESDAY AFTERNOON...

A strong system will push into the panhandle through Tuesday and
into Wednesday with heavy snow developing along the Klondike
Highway between 12pm to 3pm Tuesday. Heavy snow is expected to
continue for the upper elevations of the Klondike highway,
including White Pass, through Tuesday night. Snow levels should
remain 2000 to 2500 feet, locations near sea level will remain
all rain. Strong wind gusts are expected and will likely lead to
blowing snow and reduced visibilities.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 AM
AKST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to
  20 inches. Blowing snow. Winds gusting as high as 65 mph.

* WHERE...Klondike Highway above 2500 feet.

* WHEN...From noon Tuesday to 9 AM AKST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult and is discouraged
  unless it is an emergency. Very strong winds could cause
  extensive tree damage. Blowing snow will significantly reduce
  visibility.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels are expected to be around
  2000 to 2500 feet through the event so snow will mainly be
  from about mile point 10 to White Pass on the Klondike
  Highway. Skagway is expected to stay mostly rain.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water
with you in case of an emergency.

People are urged to prepare their property before the onset of
winter weather.
