733 WWUS41 KALY 191754 WSWALY URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Albany NY 1254 PM EST Mon Jan 19 2026 NYZ032-201100- /O.CON.KALY.WS.W.0001.260120T0000Z-260121T1200Z/ Northern Herkimer- Including the cities of Big Moose, Atwell, Nobleboro, McKeever, Northwood, Old Forge, and Eagle Bay 1254 PM EST Mon Jan 19 2026 ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM EST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. 7 to 10 inches expected with localized accumulations within the most persistent lake effect band reaching 10 to 12 inches, mainly north of Old Forge. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer County. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 AM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Travel could be difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake effect snow bands will mainly affect areas from around the Route 28 corridor and northward with snowfall rates over 1 inch per hour at times tonight. Combination of cold temperatures tonight and gusty winds will result in wind chill values between -10F and -20F. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. If you must go outside tonight, dress in layers.
