913 FXUS62 KFFC 021741 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 141 PM EDT Thu May 2 2024 ...New 18Z Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Friday) Issued at 428 AM EDT Thu May 2 2024 Cirrus is currently over the area according to satellite. Overall expecting a pretty normal day with an afternoon cumulus field and temps in the upper 80s. The ridging set in place over the area moves to the east Friday with a trough to our west. As this trough moves further west, we start to see the beginnings of shower and thunderstorm activity Friday afternoon and evening. With temps close to 90, there will be ample instability to result in thunderstorms. Although thunderstorms are not expected to be severe, cannot rule out some strong wind gusts with any of the stronger storms. Hernandez && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through Wednesday) Issued at 428 AM EDT Thu May 2 2024 At a glance: - Showers and thunderstorms across much of north and central Georgia on Saturday will help keep temps closer to normal. - Habanero temps next week The long term picks up as an inverted trough makes a ripple in what has been otherwise zonal flow for the past few days. This will be the trigger we need to get showers and thunderstorms going across much of the CWA. A few storms could have frequent lightning and some gust winds, but the severe threat remains low at this time. Rainfall totals are expected to be less than half an inch as the system is set to push out quickly once the front arrives. Beside the brief shot of rain, and the cooler low temp on Sunday morning the atmosphere rebounds pretty quickly as we start next week. Highs on Monday will be in the mid to upper 80s and will continue to climb through the week. A few afternoon thunderstorms are possible Sunday and Monday but otherwise should be a great week to spend time outside. Vaughn && .AVIATION...
