.DISCUSSION...
(This evening through next Thursday)
Issued at 400 PM CDT Fri May 10 2024

A gorgeous late spring day is ongoing across the Mid-South.
Temperatures range from low to mid 70s under partly cloudy skies.
Surface high pressure will continue to build into the Mid-South
through Sunday. A couple of cool nights are on tap, with lows in
the 50s. A few locations near the Tennessee River could briefly
fall in the upper 50s. Return flow will set up across the region
on Sunday with dewpoints rising into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

A compact upper level low will move from the Four Corners Region
and into the Lower Mississippi Valley by Monday morning.
Simultaneously, a surface low will develop in the Southern Plains
and move into the Mid-South region. This low will push a cold
front slowly through the region Monday into Tuesday night. A few
strong thunderstorms are possible, as instability is maximized in
during the afternoon hours on Tuesday. Otherwise, any organized
storms should remain to the south of the region.

A brief dry day is expected on Wednesday before another shortwave
moves through on Thursday and Friday. A cold front looks to move
through late next weekend.
