Overview...During the evening hours of April 28th, a severe quasi linear convective system moved across Caddo and Bossier Parishes in northwestern Louisiana and also southern Lafayette County in Arkansas. This system produced widespread winds of 50 to 80 mph in these areas, but also produced a multitude of weak and relatively short tornadoes from embedded mesovortices in an environment of sufficient instability and low level shear favorable for these types of tornadoes spawning from and embedded in an organized squall line. There were many incidents of wind damage outside of the confirmed tornado pathes referenced below. ..Southwest Shreveport LA Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 95 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.21 miles Path Width /maximum/: 350 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/28/2024 Start Time: 07:07 PM CDT Start Location: 5 SSW Shreveport / Caddo Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.4076 / -93.8311 End Date: 04/28/2024 End Time: 07:09 PM CDT End Location: 4 SSE Shreveport / Caddo Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.4198 / -93.7784 Survey Summary: This weak tornado began near the intersection of Dean Road and Cedar Creek Drive and quickly advanced east northeast across residential areas south of Terry Bradshaw parkway. The tornado eventually crossed the above parkway just west of Mansfield Road, then crossed Mansfield Road and ended in the vicinity of Kingston Road. A large majority of the damage was EF-0 level tree damage with just a few pockets of low level EF-1 damage at Southwood High School and just off of Walker Road. At the high school, a weight training facility separated from the main school building lost most of the roof covering, with debris blown hundreds of yards to the north. Otherwise, some structures in the tornado path were damaged by uprooted trees and downed limbs, but fortunately there were no reported injuries or fatalities. There was also major damage to a roof of an apartment building on the north side of the city just north of Interstate 220 along North Market Street, but this was far removed from the above tornado path and was determined to have resulted from straight line winds. Many thanks to the Caddo Parish Emergency Management Community for their assistance in locating damage in the parish. ..North Bossier Parish Tornado #1... Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.89 miles Path Width /maximum/: 300 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/28/2024 Start Time: 07:25 PM CDT Start Location: 5 WNW Plain Dealing / Bossier Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.9491 / -93.7833 End Date: 04/28/2024 End Time: 07:30 PM CDT End Location: 7 NW Plain Dealing / Bossier Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.9894 / -93.7707 Survey Summary: This weak tornado began along Malone Road and was coincident with a small tornadic debris signature from the KSHV Nexrad Radar. This tornado tracked north northeast, crossing Highway 537 and ending shortly after crossing over Still House Road. This EF-0 tornado produced mainly tree damage in the form of uproots and downed limbs. ..North Bossier Parish Tornado #2... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.12 miles Path Width /maximum/: 325 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/28/2024 Start Time: 07:32 PM CDT Start Location: 6 NNW Plain Dealing / Bossier Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.9897 / -93.7473 End Date: 04/28/2024 End Time: 07:36 PM CDT End Location: 6 SSW Bradley / Bossier Parish / AR End Lat/Lon: 33.0137 / -93.7032 Survey Summary: This relatively weak tornado began near the intersection of Still House Road and Log Ferry Road and was coincident with a small tornadic debris signature from the KSHV Nexrad Radar. This tornado tracked northeast, paralleling Wise Road for a few miles before crossing Clements Road. The tornado may have continued a little past Clements Road, but our NWS survey team could not confirm that because many trees downed across Clements Road inhibited the team`s access further northeast. This tornado mainly produced EF-0 tree damage in the form of uproots and downed limbs. However, there were also quite a few tree trunk snaps as it crossed Clements Road, earning a peak wind speed estimate there of 100 mph, which classifies this as an EF-1 tornado. ..North Bossier Parish Tornado #3... Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.69 miles Path Width /maximum/: 275 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/28/2024 Start Time: 07:33 PM CDT Start Location: 4 NE Plain Dealing / Bossier Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.9519 / -93.6488 End Date: 04/28/2024 End Time: 07:35 PM CDT End Location: 6 NE Plain Dealing / Bossier Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.9735 / -93.6355 Survey Summary: This weak tornado began along Highway 157 and was coincident with a small tornadic debris signature from the KSHV Nexrad Radar. This tornado tracked north northeast, crossing Chalybeate Springs Road and ending shortly thereafter. This EF-0 tornado produced mainly tree damage in the form of uproots and downed limbs. ..South Lafayette County Tornado #1... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 0.80 miles Path Width /maximum/: 275 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/28/2024 Start Time: 07:37 PM CDT Start Location: 7 WSW Bradley / Lafayette County / AR Start Lat/Lon: 33.0496 / -93.7644 End Date: 04/28/2024 End Time: 07:38 PM CDT End Location: 6 SW Bradley / Lafayette County / AR End Lat/Lon: 33.0496 / -93.7507 Survey Summary: This brief tornado tracked east, along and just south of County Road 7 in the far southwestern portion of the county. Despite the short path, this tornado produced higher end EF-1 damage with max estimated wind speeds attributed to snapping of power poles and near destruction of a metal barn housing hay bales. Otherwise, damage was mostly to trees in the form of uproots, trunk snaps, and downing of large limbs. Many thanks to the Lafayette County Arkansas Emergency Management Community for their assistance in locating the damage. ..South Lafayette County Tornado #2... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.36 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/28/2024 Start Time: 07:43 PM CDT Start Location: 4 ESE Bradley / Lafayette County / AR Start Lat/Lon: 33.0702 / -93.6028 End Date: 04/28/2024 End Time: 07:44 PM CDT End Location: 4 ESE Bradley / Lafayette County / AR End Lat/Lon: 33.08 / -93.5823 Survey Summary: This brief tornado tracked northeast to the west of Lake Erling, starting along Hood Road and ending just after crossing Highway 160. The tornado could have began slightly before Hood Road, but many trees crossing that road limited the survey team`s access farther to the southwest. Damage was mostly to trees in the form of uproots, trunk snaps, and downing of large limbs. There were also a multitude of trees downed to the northeast in a widespread area around Lake Erling. Some trees produced structural damage as they fell on residences and the damage was attributed to straight line winds of 60 to 80 mph, not the tornado. Many thanks to the Lafayette County Arkansas Emergency Management Community for their assistance in locating the damage. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ 50/19
