Expect temperatures a few degrees above seasonal averages this afternoon. No changes made to the forecast this morning as it looks to be in good shape. && .PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...105 AM PDT Mon Apr 29 2024/ .SHORT TERM...through Tuesday. Breezy conditions can expected during the afternoon hours today and and Tuesday as south-southwest winds generally 15-25 mph develop in response to a couple shortwaves moving across the northwest states and brushing the Great Basin. Temperatures will climb 4-5 degrees today and another 3-4 degrees Tuesday leading to highs several degrees above normal with readings across the desert zones in the upper 80s to lower 90s by Tuesday afternoon. .LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday. Little has changed in ensemble simulations showing a sharper trough moving through the Great Basin Wednesday into Thursday. Most impactful weather will come in the form of stronger north winds behind the cold frontal passage. ECMWF EFI for Tuesday night through Wednesday suggests wind speeds for parts of northern Inyo, Esmeralda and central Nye counties may be unusually strong when compared compared to model climate. However, based on latest forecast it does not look like a wind product would be needed. On Thursday, strongest northerly winds will be concentrated into the lower CRV. For Lake Mohave, NBM has a 31% chance of sustained winds of greater than 25 mph. Other than Wednesday and Thursday`s brief cooldown, temperatures will rebound to 5 to 8 degrees above normal Friday and Saturday. South to southwest breezes expected to increase over the weekend; however, there remains quite a bit of uncertainty Sunday and beyond in evolution of the next trough. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Southwest winds less than 7 knots through 16z today will increase to around 10-15 knots between 17z- 20z. Southwest winds are forecast to peak between 20z-00z this afternoon with speeds 10-15 knots with gusts between 20-25 knots. Winds are then expected to quickly diminish after sunset to around 7 knots or less. Mostly clear skies with just a few flat cumulus clouds around 10kft over the high terrain. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...Generally light winds through mid morning before southwest to west winds increase late morning and afternoon. Most areas will see winds between 10-20 knots with gusts to around 25 knots which is expected to peak mid to late afternoon. Decreasing winds Monday evening with most areas seeing winds under 10 knots. A few flat cumulus over the higher terrain, especially across central Nevada. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ UPDATE...Varian SHORT TERM...Adair LONG TERM...Pierce AVIATION...Gorelow For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
