AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Wilmington OH
647 AM EDT Fri Apr 19 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move east through the area this morning,
bringing an end to the precipitation threat once it passes by.
High pressure will build east into the Ohio Valley tonight into
Saturday. The high will continue to extend across the region
into Sunday. Below normal temperatures can be expected for the
weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Regional mosaic radar this morning showed decaying
precipitation across the region in association with a weakening
MCS. This precipitation was occurring ahead of an advancing cold
front. Areal coverage should continue to shrink into sunrise as
it moves east while the cold front advances into the area.

For today, the cold front will exit the area by afternoon,
bringing an end to the precipitation threat. Post frontal low
clouds will exit, being replaced by high level clouds. Under a
gusty northwest flow, it will be cooler today. Highs will range
from the mid 50s northwest to the upper 60s southeast.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM SATURDAY/...
For tonight into Saturday, embedded s/wv energy will dig
through a long wave mid level trough across the Great Lakes,
southeast Canada, and New England. At the surface, high pressure
will be found across the Ohio Valley. Mid and high level clouds
tonight should thin into Saturday, resulting in mostly sunny
skies. It will be cool. After lows in the upper 30s to the lower
40s, highs will range from the lower 50s north to the lower 60s
south.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure builds in from west Saturday night through Sunday
night. Below average temperatures persist for the period along
with dry conditions. Forecast lows drop into the 30s on Saturday
and Sunday night leading to the possibility of frost both
nights especially north of the Ohio River. As of now, Sunday
night looks to have the most favorable conditions for
radiational cooling with calm winds and clearing skies. High
pressure will quickly pivot overhead on Monday continuing the
stretch of quiet weather.

High pressure shifts southeast on Monday night into Tuesday as
the next upper level disturbance and surface low moves toward
the region. Winds shift to the southwest ahead of the low of on
Tuesday which will cause temperatures to moderate briefly before
a cold front passes through late Tuesday/early Wednesday. Rain
chances increase ahead of the front before quickly ending after
FROPA on Wednesday. Cool and dry conditions return on Thursday
along with surface high pressure.

&&

.AVIATION /12Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
From 12Z to 18Z, the cold front will advance east/southeast
through the remainder of the region. Precipitation will come to
an end with frontal passage with a period of IFR/LIFR ceilings
forecast. Winds will become gusty from the northwest between 15
and 25 knots. Ceilings will gradually lift back into the MVFR
category before clearing out from west to east during the
afternoon hours. This will leave just some high level cirrus in
place.

Later in the afternoon and into the evening, locally gusty
northwest winds will eventually subside. Some mid and high level
clouds are possible overnight despite surface high pressure
building into the middle Ohio Valley.

OUTLOOK...MVFR conditions possible on Tuesday. Gusty winds to
30 knots possible on Tuesday.
