Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Miami FL

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 222 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

Conditions across South Florida will remain dry and seasonable
through the short term as surface high pressure and stout upper-level
ridging prevail over the region. Breezy easterly winds along the
periphery of the surface high - currently located over the western
Atlantic - will continue to advect low-level moisture over the area
which could result in a few cumulus clouds developing during peak
daytime heating. However, strong subsidence from ridging aloft will
help keep rain changes to a minimum.

Temperatures today will rise to the low-mid 80s across much of
South Florida. Overnight temperatures will drop to the low 60s over
the interior and low 70s along the East Coast. On Wednesday, highs
could reach the upper 80s across portions of southwest FL.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through Monday)
Issued at 222 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

Upper level ridging will prevail across the Gulf of Mexico and
the Florida peninsula through much of the extended period,
allowing for generally dry and warm conditions to continue.
Near the surface, high pressure will remain over the western Atlantic
through the end of the work week, allowing for continued easterly
flow across the area.

Temperatures will gradually warm through the period, with highs
reaching the lower 90s across much of the interior near the end
of the work week, and approaching the mid 90s during the weekend.
Conditions along the East Coast may remain slightly cooler thanks
to onshore flow, with highs in the mid to upper 80s through
much of the period.

&&

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 705 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period. Generally
easterly winds around 10-15kts with gusts 20-25kts can be expected
through the daytime hours before gusts drop off after sunset. A
wind shift to the W-SW is expected this afternoon at KAPF.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 222 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

A moderate to fresh easterly wind flow will continue across
the local waters through the middle of the week as high pressure
remains in place over the Western Atlantic. These winds will slowly
subside and become southeasterly heading towards the end of the
week as the surface high shifts eastward. Seas across the Atlantic
waters will range from 2 to 4 feet through the middle of the week
while seas across the Gulf waters remain at 2 feet or less.

&&

.BEACHES...
Issued at 222 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

A high risk for rip currents will develop along all Atlantic Beaches
on Tuesday as onshore flow strengthens. The high risk will continue
through at least mid week, before starting to decrease late in the
week as winds become lighter.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 220 AM EDT Tue Apr 16 2024

Dry airmass will continue across South FL with high pressure in
control. Min RH values in the 30s are expected over interior and
SW FL locations today. Despite winds not meeting critical
thresholds, low RH values and persistent dry weather will result
in continued fire weather concerns.
