427 FXUS62 KKEY 050231 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1031 PM EDT Sat May 4 2024 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION... .DISCUSSION... Issued at 938 PM EDT Sat May 4 2024 Currently - A strong high pressure system centered broadly over New Brunswick stretches a robust ridge south southwestward along the Atlantic coast that then arcs southwest and west across the Gulf of Mexico. This is generating moderate to fresh easterly breezes across the Keys this evening. This easterly flow is maintaining slightly above normal temperatures, which are currently near 80. Dew points remain near 70. This evening sounding indicated some lower level inhibition with a neutral to backing lower level wind profile. Precipitable water is down a bit over the past 24 hours and is now sitting just below one inch. All this, along with no convective support has resulted in no shower activity along the island chain. There has been a few weak showers moving into our deep gulf waters and along maritime boundaries over the outer eastern straits. Short Term Update - The previously mentioned ridge will remain in firm control of the broader are through the overnight period. This will lead to continued moderate easterly breezes across the island chain. While showers have thus far not been an issue, they cannot be ruled out for the overnight. Forecast soundings suggest the lower level inhibition will weaken substantially while moisture will tick upwards. Expect lows in the mid to upper 70s range with dew points remaining near 70. && .MARINE...
