Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Marquette MI
953 PM EDT Fri Apr 19 2024

For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior.

Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.SYNOPSIS...A 29.4 inch low pressure over northern Quebec
continues to deepen tonight into Saturday morning as a 30.4 inch
high pressure over the Northern Rockies near the international
border builds southeast into the Northern Plains. This brings
ridging of 30.1 inches over Lake Superior by Saturday, creating a
tight southwest to northeast pressure gradient over the lake. The
gradient begins to slack on Sunday as the high pressure slides
into the Southern Plains and a weak 29.9 inch trough extending
from Quebec skirts over the eastern half of Lake Superior. A
brief period of 30.1 inch high pressure meanders south out of the
Canadian Prairies Sunday night into Monday before broad 29.6 inch
low pressure begins moving eastward into the Great Lakes on
Tuesday. This low centers over Lake Superior Tuesday morning at
29.5 inches progressively weakens to 29.8 inches while heading
towards southern Ontario throughout the day. A 30.4 inch high
pressure over northern Ontario then moves over Lake Superior in
its wake Wednesday.
