Critical fire weather conditions will return today for eastern New Mexico as well as the Middle Rio Grande and Sandia and Manzano Mountains. The northern portion of the Sandia Mountains received several dry lightning strikes last evening which will be cause for concern as winds increase and humidity decreases today. Sub-15 percent RH with wind gusts between 35 and 40 mph can be expected this afternoon across much of central and eastern New Mexico. Another storm system will approach the Four Corners tonight before shifting eastward over southern Colorado Saturday. Another round of showers and thunderstorms are expected across western and central New Mexico, while strong winds return for eastern New Mexico. Critical fire weather conditions are possible across the East Central Plains Saturday afternoon. Quieter conditions are expected early next week, though hot, dry and unstable conditions are likely.
