National Weather Service Anchorage AK
1137 AM AKDT Thu Apr 18 2024

Forecast is based on forecast start time of 1100 AKDT on April 18.
.DISCUSSION...

Persistent conditions are expected to continue into Friday
morning with snow and strong, gusty east to southeast winds. The
strongest winds and precipitation is expected to be primarily
during the day today near the spot location. Gusty winds across
the mountains has allowing ceilings to be higher, 3000 to 5000
feet, but more protected locations could see ceilings drop to
around 2000 to 3000 feet at times. Mountain waves have been
observed across the area and may affect air travel. Visibility
could be as low as 1 mile early this afternoon in heavier snow.
Ceilings, precipitation, and visibility are expected to improve as
that front moves southwestward after midnight into Friday
morning. The timing could be delayed though, which would lead to
conditions persisting a bit longer. Winds at may not see
substantial improvements until almost Saturday.
