and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
301 PM CDT Mon May 6 2024

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM MDT
TUESDAY...

.DISCUSSION...

Between now and sundown this evening, elevated fire weather
conditions may be possible over southwestern Nebraska due to low

danger will be over areas where green up has not commenced.

Thunderstorms are expected to exit the eastern Sandhills by 8 PM
CDT this evening. The main concern over the next 24 to 36 hours
will be from the wind. Strong westerly and northwesterly winds
will develop later this evening and will persist into Tuesday
morning. Some wind gusts may reach up to 60 MPH, particularly over
the northwestern Sandhills. Elsewhere, wind gusts of 45 to 55 MPH
are possible tonight. Winds will subside some on Tuesday but
remain gusty from the west and northwest. Between now and sundown
this evening, elevated fire weather conditions may be possible
over southwestern Nebraska due to low relative humidity and gusty
westerly winds. This elevated fire danger will be over areas where
green up has not commenced.
