* WHAT...Heat index values up to 106.

* WHERE...Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Murray,
  Polk, Walker, and Whitfield Counties.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north and central Georgia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

Heat index values will peak over 100 degrees across the area this
afternoon. Please exercise caution if spending extended time or
doing strenuous activity outdoors.

Scattered thunderstorms will be around central Georgia this
afternoon to early evening. A few could be strong with gusty
winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday...

Heat index values will exceed 100 degrees for much of the area
through Sunday.

Daily afternoon thunderstorm chances continue over the weekend
into early next week. A few of these could be strong, capable of
gusty winds of 40-50 mph, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.
