This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of north central
Illinois...northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Limited Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated:
     Level 1 of 5 Damaging Wind Risk...up to 60 mph.
  Limited Flooding Risk, mainly in northwest Illinois.
  Elevated Excessive Heat Risk.

DISCUSSION...

Oppressive heat and humidity will persist into this evening, with
heat indices gradually falling through the 90s early.

A few thunderstorms may move into portions of northern Illinois
late this evening and overnight, along an outflow boundary that is
expected to push into the area from Wisconsin. The strongest
storms will be capable of frequent lightning, gusty outflow winds,
and heavy rainfall.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Tuesday and Wednesday...
  Limited Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated:
     Level 1 of 5 Severe Thunderstorm Risk.
  Limited Flooding Risk.
  Limited Excessive Heat Risk.

Thursday through Sunday...
  Limited Thunderstorm Risk.
  Limited Excessive Heat Risk.

DISCUSSION...

Periodic thunderstorm chances will exist into the weekend, as
a nearly stationary frontal boundary lingers in the vicinity.
The strongest storms may be capable of producing damaging
wind gusts and localized flooding.

While lower than the past few days, afternoon peak heat indices
near 100 are expected, especially south of I-80.

  Spotter activation will likely not be necessary through tonight.

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT
TONIGHT...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot and humid conditions with high temperatures
  well into the 90s and afternoon heat index values between 100 and
  105 degrees expected.

* WHERE...Central Cook, Northern Cook, and Southern Cook Counties.

* WHEN...Until midnight CDT tonight.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
  extreme heat and high humidity events. The magnitude of
  anticipated heat, combined with oppressive warmth at night will
  lead to hazardous conditions, particularly for the elderly and
  those with pre-existing health conditions. Residents of the city
  of Chicago can call 3 1 1 to request well being checks for elderly
  friends or family members, or for information on finding the
  nearest cooling center.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
