This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central Kansas,
east central Kansas, north central Kansas, and northeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

There is a 20 to 40 percent chance thunderstorms move into parts
of northern Kansas overnight tonight. An isolated damaging wind
gust can not be ruled out with the storms.

Heat indices along and south of interstate 70 will reach the 104
to 108 degree range this afternoon. An excessive heat warning is
in effect Today through Tonight for areas along and south of a
line from Oskaloosa to Clay Center.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

Hot weather with heat indices around 105 each afternoon is
forecast to persist into next weekend. The duration of the heat
has lead to an Extreme Heat Warning for areas along and south of a
line from Oskaloosa to Clay Center. An Extreme Heat Watch is
posted for area north of this line beginning Monday.

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 107.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and
  northeast Kansas.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
  extreme heat and high humidity events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
