This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of east central,
north central, and northeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to persist across eastern
Kansas through the late afternoon. Additional thunderstorms could
develop overnight. Severe weather is unlikely, but the storms may
be capable of brief heavy rainfall and occasional lightning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday

The Extreme Heat Watch for northern counties has been upgraded to
a Heat Advisory from noon until 9pm Monday. The Extreme Heat
Warning for areas along and south of a line from Oskaloosa to Clay
Center remains in effect through Wednesday. A prolong period of
heat is forecast, and the cumulative effects of the heat could
lead to heat illnesses.

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...A prolonged period of hot conditions with heat index values
  up to 107 is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and
  northeast Kansas.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...The cumulative effect of the heat can cause heat
  illnesses like heat cramps, exhaustion and even heat stroke.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
