The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southern Plymouth County in southeastern Massachusetts...
  Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts...
  Washington County in Rhode Island...
  Newport County in Rhode Island...
  Kent County in Rhode Island...
  Southern Providence County in Rhode Island...
  Bristol County in Rhode Island...

* Until 530 PM EDT.

* At 129 PM EDT Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain moving towards and across the warned area, which
  includes southeast Massachusetts and central to southern Rhode
  Island. Radar estimates rainfall rates of up to 1 to 3 inches per
  hour with the thunderstorms. As a result, significant urban and
  poor drainage flash flooding is expected during this afternoon.
  Some small streams may also rise out of their banks.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Providence, New Bedford, Fall River, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket,
  Plymouth, Taunton, East Providence, Coventry, Dartmouth, North
  Providence, South Kingstown, West Warwick, Johnston, Bridgewater,
  North Kingstown, Newport, Bristol and Marion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Flooding will occur quickly and could become life threatening for
those who try to drive through flooded roads or underpasses. Find
alternate routes and avoid flooded areas.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of northern Connecticut, Massachusetts, and northern
  Rhode Island, including the following areas, in northern
  Connecticut, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham. In Massachusetts,
  Eastern Hampshire, Essex, Hampden, Middlesex, Norfolk,
  Northern Bristol, Northern Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester.
  In northern Rhode Island, Kent and Providence.

* Through late tonight

* Bands of torrential rain showers associated with the remnants
  of Florence will continue to track across the watch area thru
  this afternoon. A large portion of western and north central
  Massachusetts has already received 2 to 4 inches of rainfall.
  Up to an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is possible within
  the watch area thru this afternoon.

* As a result of the rain that has fallen and expected rainfall
  over the next few hours, both small stream and urban flash
  flooding remain possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

...GUSTY WINDS OUT AHEAD OF THUNDERSTORMS IN SOUTHEAST
MASSACHUSETTS AND EASTERN RHODE ISLAND...

At 1254 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong wind gusts to 30
to 40 mph along a line extending from near Duxbury to Scituate.
Movement was south at 10 mph.  The winds were well out ahead of
thunderstorms which were farther to the north.

Winds in excess of 30 mph can be expected. There will also be
pockets of minor urban and poor drainage flooding.

Locations impacted include...
Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket, Plymouth, Taunton, East
Providence, Coventry, North Providence, West Warwick, Johnston,
Bridgewater, Marshfield, Attleboro, Middleborough, Norton, Somerset,
Pembroke, Barrington and Swansea.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Get indoors when these storms approach. Winds may be strong enough to
produce minor damage, such as a few downed branches.  Do not attempt
to drive through flooded waters.

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Windham County in northern Connecticut...
  Northeastern Tolland County in northern Connecticut...
  Southeastern Worcester County in central Massachusetts...
  Norfolk County in eastern Massachusetts...
  Southern Suffolk County in eastern Massachusetts...
  South central Middlesex County in northeastern Massachusetts...
  Northern Plymouth County in southeastern Massachusetts...
  Northwestern Bristol County in southeastern Massachusetts...
  Providence County in Rhode Island...

* Until 315 PM EDT.

* At 1120 AM EDT Doppler radar indicated showers and thunderstorms
  producing very heavy rain within the warned area. Flash flooding
  is expected to begin shortly.

* As of 1120 AM, the heaviest rainfall extended from extreme
  northeast Connecticut into far northwest Rhode Island,
  northeastward into the Boston corridor. Rainfall rates in this
  area were as high as 2 to 5 inches per hour. This band may shift
  to the south over the next couple of hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Boston, Brockton, Quincy, Pawtucket, Taunton, Weymouth, Woonsocket,
  Braintree, Cumberland, Randolph, North Providence, Franklin,
  Johnston, North Attleborough, Norwood, Milford, Milton, Stoughton,
  Bridgewater and Windham.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding will occur quickly, and
could be life threatening for those who try to drive through flooded
roads or underpasses. Find alternate routes. Those near small streams
need to get to higher ground immediately.
