This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Maryland portion of the
Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through
central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

A Heat Advisory is in effect for most of the area near and east of
Interstate 95 until 8 PM this evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10 PM for the
Baltimore Metropolitan area, and until Midnight for Cecil County
in northeastern Maryland as well as southern Maryland. Thunderstorms
may contain damaging wind gusts.


.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday

A Heat Advisory is in effect for most of the area near and east of
Interstate 95 from 11 AM until 8 PM Friday. Heat index values will
be around 105 degrees.

For areas west of Interstate 95, heat indices around 100 to 105
degrees are possible between noon and 8 PM Friday.

More numerous thunderstorms are likely Friday afternoon and
evening. Some of these storms may contain damaging wind gusts or
large hail.

The chance of thunderstorms is increasing for Sunday afternoon and
evening. Some of these storms may also be severe.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotters have been activated tonight. Spotters may need to be
activated for Friday and Sunday.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM EDT FRIDAY...

* WHAT...For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107.

* WHERE...District of Columbia, central, northeast, northern, and
  southern Maryland, and central and northern Virginia.

* WHEN...From 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
