Overnight low temperatures will remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s. * WHERE...Portions of southeast Kansas and central, southwest, and west central Missouri. * WHEN...Until 8 PM CDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. && $$

Weather hazards expected... Marginal thunderstorm wind damage risk. Limited lightning risk. Elevated excessive heat risk. Limited excessive rainfall risk DISCUSSION... Heat index values around 100 to 108 degrees will occur again today, with the highest values west and north of Springfield. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible across portions of central Missouri this afternoon into early this evening. Coverage will be limited and most locations should remain dry. Gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall will be possible with any storm that is able to develop today. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday. Heat index values around 100 to 109 degrees will persist into the upcoming weekend. Longevity of extreme heat with limited relief during the night will elevate the heat risk and potential impacts. An isolated thunderstorm will be possible across portions of central Missouri again on Thursday. Gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall would be possible with any storm that is able to develop. Coverage will again be limited and most locations should remain dry.
