The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Western Madison County in southwestern Illinois...
  St. Louis City in east central Missouri...
  Central St. Charles County in east central Missouri...
  Northwestern Jefferson County in east central Missouri...
  East central Franklin County in east central Missouri...
  St. Louis County in east central Missouri...

* Until 1000 AM CDT.

* At 423 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is expected to
  begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  St. Louis, St. Charles, St. Peters, Florissant, Chesterfield,
  Wildwood, University City, Ballwin, Granite City, Alton, Kirkwood,
  Maryland Heights, Hazelwood, Webster Groves, Ferguson, Manchester,
  Godfrey, Creve Coeur, Overland and Clayton.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 44 in Missouri between exits 253 and 277.
 Interstate 70 in Missouri between exits 228 and 231.

This also includes Babler Memorial State Park, Scott Joplin Historic
Site, Route 66 State Park, Castlewood State Park, Confluence State
Park, and First Missouri State Capitol Historic Site.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of eastern and
central Missouri as well as west central and southwest Illinois.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms this morning, exiting the area by
noon. Isolated heavy rain is expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Thunderstorms may linger into early Monday morning for portions of
the area.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation is not anticipated through tonight.

  Meramec River near Arnold

River forecasts are based on observed precipitation and forecast
precipitation for the next 24 hours.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Rainfall heavier than forecast could cause river levels to rise even
higher than predicted.  The National Weather Service will monitor
this developing situation and issue follow up statements as
conditions or forecasts change.

Safety message:  Never drive cars, trucks, or sport utility vehicles
through flooded areas.  The water may be too deep to allow for safe
passage.

* At  8:30 PM Sunday the stage was 26.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 24.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* The river is forecast to continue falling to a stage of 25.2 feet
  by Tuesday morning.

* until further notice.
* At  8:30 PM Sunday the stage was 26.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* The river is forecast to crest near 28.1 feet by Friday morning.
* Impact:  At 27.0 feet...The Katy Trail begins flooding near this
  height along Hawning Road, about 2 miles north northeast of the
  Highway 370 bridge.
