...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north central North Carolina,
northwest North Carolina, central Virginia, south central Virginia,
southwest Virginia, west central Virginia and southeast West
Virginia.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

Please listen to NOAA Weather Radio or go to weather.gov on the
Internet for more information about the following hazards.

   Flood Watch.

In addition to the flood threat, some storms this afternoon may
become severe and produce damaging winds that could blow down trees
and power lines. Hail is also possible in the strongest storms.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Afternoon storms will once again will be capable of producing heavy
rainfall that could cause localized flash flooding, particularly in
flood prone and urban areas. Isolated damaging winds may be possible
in the strongest storms, which could blow down trees and power
lines.

  Southern Surry County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Eastern Wilkes County in northwestern North Carolina...
  Yadkin County in northwestern North Carolina...

* Until 900 PM EDT.

* At 806 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Arlington, or
  over Jonesville, moving northeast at 20 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
           to roofs, siding, and trees.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. For your
safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy
building. Stay away from windows.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

At 756 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms over Swancreek, or near Ronda, moving east at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
  possible.

* WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas,
  Alleghany NC, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga,
  Wilkes and Yadkin, Virginia, including the following areas,
  Alleghany VA, Amherst, Appomattox, Bath, Bedford, Bland,
  Botetourt, Buckingham, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Craig, Floyd,
  Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick,
  Pittsylvania, Pulaski, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Smyth, Tazewell and
  Wythe, and southeast West Virginia, including the following areas,
  Eastern Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Summers and Western Greenbrier.

* WHEN...Until midnight EDT tonight.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
  Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop
    this afternoon and persist through this evening. Rain rates
    of 2 to 4 inches an hour are expected. If these storms sit
    over an area for even a short amount of time, poor drainage
    flooding may occur.  If storms merge or train over the same
    area, resulting in persistent, or repetitive rounds of
    rainfall, then flash flooding may occur.

Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
