A cold front also approaches the region Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms. Strong to severe storms will be possible with hail and damaging winds as the primary threats. In addition, torrential downpours will be possible along with isolated flash flooding. There is increasing confidence for the hottest weather of the year so far early next week.
