SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. RISK...Limited. AREA...North of Interstate 40. ONSET...Afternoon. HEAVY RAIN. RISK...Limited. AREA...Northeast Oklahoma into far northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Mid morning. DANGEROUS HEAT. RISK...Elevated. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. ONSET...Afternoon. DISCUSSION... Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to spread across portions of northeast Oklahoma into far northwest Arkansas this morning. These storms may produce locally gusty winds and heavy downpours. Additional storms are forecast to develop during the afternoon near a weak boundary which will extend across northeast Oklahoma into far northwest Arkansas. Any storms which develop this afternoon may become strong to severe. Locally damaging outflow winds will be the primary hazard. Isolated heavy rainfall amounts are also possible this afternoon and evening across northeast Oklahoma and far northwest Arkansas. A heat advisory is in effect today for portions of eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. Afternoon heat index values around 105 degrees will be likely within the advisory area. Remember the heat safety guidelines with any outdoor activities. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Local Spotter Activation May Be Needed. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday. FRIDAY through WEDNESDAY...Dangerous Heat Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... A prolonged period of hot and humid conditions is forecast for this weekend through at least the middle of next week. Afternoon heat index values of 100 to 110 degrees will be common across all eastern Oklahoma and much of northwest Arkansas.
