AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Midday. AREA AT GREATEST RISK...Northeast Oklahoma into Arkansas River Valley of West Central Arkansas. DISCUSSION... Dangerous heat and heat stress remain across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas today ahead of a weak frontal boundary forecast to move into the region mid to late afternoon. Forecast heat index values of 105 to 115 degrees are anticipated, with the higher values across parts of northeast Oklahoma into the Arkansas River valley of west central Arkansas. Mid to late afternoon, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop as the boundary moves into northeast Oklahoma and far northwest Arkansas. Low shower and storm chances continue through the evening and remain possible overnight tonight mainly along and north of Interstate 40. Localized strong downburst winds will be the main threat with the stronger storms through the late evening hours. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Additional low shower and storm chances continue during the day Monday while the weak frontal boundary sags southward through eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Again, strong downburst winds are the main threat with the stronger storms. Behind the boundary, a minor cool down to areas north of Interstate 40 are forecast Monday, while heat stress conditions persist along and south of Interstate 40. Any break in the heat will be short- lived with very hot conditions returning areawide Tuesday, and especially Wednesday. Low storm chances return during the second half of the week with another frontal boundary potentially approaching the region.
