ONSET...This Evening. HEAVY RAIN. RISK...Limited. AREA...Northeast Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...This Evening. DANGEROUS HEAT. RISK...Limited. AREA...Areawide. ONSET...Early Afternoon. DISCUSSION... Hot and humid conditions are expected again this afternoon across much of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Heat index values from 95 to 105 degrees are likely. Additionally, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will initially develop north of Interstate 44 as a weak cold front approaches from the north. Thunderstorm coverage is expected to shift southward with time. A few thunderstorms may be strong or severe, especially north of Interstate 44, with large hail and damaging wind gusts being the primary threats. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected and may lead to flooding or flash flooding, especially across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas this afternoon and this evening. An active weather pattern will persist into the weekend, and into the next work week, bringing an increase in daily thunderstorm coverage. An increase in the heavy rainfall potential this weekend will be the main impact, which could lead to localized flash flooding.
