...AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR FRIDAY JULY 19...

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission has issued
a code orange air quality alert Friday for The Philadelphia
Metro area.

A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution
concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for
sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people
suffering from asthma... heart disease or other lung
diseases...and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can
be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EDT
SUNDAY...

* HEAT INDEX VALUES...102 to 107 this afternoon, and 108 to 113
  on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

* TEMPERATURES...Maximum readings in the middle and upper 90s
  this afternoon, and in the upper 90s on Saturday afternoon and
  Sunday afternoon. Overnight lows will range mainly in the upper
  70s and the lower 80s.

* TIMING...The most dangerous of the heat and humidity will occur
  from mid afternoon into the early evening each day.

* IMPACTS...The excessive heat and humidity may cause heat stress
  or heat stroke. The most susceptible individuals are the
  elderly and those with pre-existing health issues.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or
the late evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion
and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing.
Drink plenty of water.

To reduce your risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest
breaks in a shaded or air conditioned environment. Anyone overcome
by heat should be moved to a cool shaded location. Heat stroke is
an emergency, call 9 1 1.

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will create a DANGEROUS SITUATION.
Stay in an air-conditioned environment, stay out of the sun, and
check on elderly relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in a
vehicle under any circumstance. This is especially true during hot
weather when a car`s interior can reach lethal temperatures in a
matter of minutes.
