This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of eastern West
Virginia, northern and central Virginia, and central and western
Maryland.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

A Code Red and Purple Air Quality Alerts are in effect for the
entire area through midnight. Poor air quality likely lingers into
Saturday morning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected early
Saturday morning through late Saturday evening. There is the
potential for large hail, a couple of tornadoes, and damaging wind
gusts (a few of which could approach 70 mph). Uncertainty remains
in the exact timing and how widespread severe thunderstorms might
be. In addition, very heavy rain could result in a few instances
of flash flooding.

Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are possible Tuesday
and/or Wednesday.

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR FRIDAY JULY 17 2026...

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a
Code PURPLE Air Quality Alert Friday for
Northwestern and Central Virginia.

A Code Purple Air Quality Alert means that air pollution
concentrations within the region are very unhealthy for the
general population. The risk of health effects is increased
for everyone. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by
avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
