...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM MONDAY TO
NOON AKST TUESDAY...
* WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, dangerously cold wind
chill temperatures as low as 35 below. For the Extreme Cold
Warning, extremely cold wind chill temperatures as low as 40
below expected.
* WHERE...Municipality of Skagway.
* WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 6 PM AKST Monday.
For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 6 PM Monday to noon AKST
Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia are likely if exposed to
these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lowest wind chills will be on the higher
elevations of the Klondike Highway. White Pass is already seeing
wind chills to -30 as of 9 pm Sunday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves
or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing
and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-
ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground
pipes to protect them from freezing.

...COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM AKST TUESDAY...
* WHAT...Very cold wind chills as low as 40 to 50 below.
* WHERE...Copper River Basin.
* WHEN...Until 4 PM AKST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 50 below zero
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 5 minutes.
Frostbite and hypothermia are likely if exposed to these
temperatures. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with
prolonged exposure.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This will be a long duration cold outbreak,
with overnight low temperatures below -20F through the end of the
week. Breezy conditions will make it feel much colder than the
ambient air temperature, with wind chills dropping to as low as
-50F.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Use caution while outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and
gloves. Be sure to have an emergency kit in your car and appropriate
cold weather clothing and blankets in case your car breaks down.
