...EXTREME COLD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY
MORNING...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills around 30 below possible.

* WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Colorado, northwest
and west central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska.

* WHEN...From Monday evening through Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia may occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values will fall to
extremely dangerous levels. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Added stress to
pets and livestock, especially young animals.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A long duration extreme cold event remains
forecast to occur. Wind chill values during the daytime hours
Tuesday and Wednesday may not rise above 15 below zero. Overnight
temperatures will be prone to become even colder if clouds are not
as thick as expected or if any breaks in the cloud cover occur.
Many daily record low temperatures are in jeopardy during this
time and perhaps even a few monthly low temperature records
especially if clouds break. Accumulating snow is also forecast to
occur which may also cause temperatures to fall even further and
pose an additional hazard to livestock.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water. Young or smaller animals are at greatest risk for
frostbite and hypothermia.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
